Do you have a clear preference for one of them ? I love both dearly , but GD would tug on my heartstrings harder .
It is a sad inverse . As GD took more and more water on in the 90's , JGB became like going to church .

edit - only listening to solo Garcia these days .

It's a tough call for the GD early years, such a rich period musically for the band, but yeah, at the end of the day, i listen to far more of Jerry's music outside the GD; a LOT more in fact

If it wasn't for this site, I'd easily end up listening to more JGB. At home or in the car, 9 times out of 10 it's Jer stuff. At work, it's stream away from here.

Tough choice.

For full catalogue I'd stick with GD.

However, I completely agree. Past 1992 I was far more excited for JGB shows than GD.

Whoa. I wrote this 4 years ago TODAY!! Spooky.

Garcia definitely explored different musical avenues outside the confines of the Grateful Dead - he was obviously a restless musical spirit who couldn't find satisfaction within any one genre. I think in some ways that it's a testament to the dynamic interplay and the variety of interest he found in the Grateful Dead that he stayed with the band as long as he did. That said, it's long been my belief, and I've posted about this more than once before, that if the Grateful Dead had disbanded after Mydland died Jerry Garcia would not only have been a happier man, but also a man who might yet be with us.

"that if the Grateful Dead had disbanded after Mydland died Jerry Garcia would not only have been a happier man, but also a man who might yet be with us." ....not so far fetched, as i have contemplated that very thought from time to time as well!!
